Our Core Glaze Colours

Earthy, aesthetically pleasing

Our core colours include soft greens, blues and neutral tones that go well with food, making these social media-worthy instantly. We continuously develope new glazes and you will find these on the Glaze Colour Swatches page.

The newest glazes in Spring 2024:

Dunes ii - a glossy, creamy warm glaze that's rather perfect for all the beige coloured food we consume - think pasta, pastry, toast!

Pearl - a satin matte white - a cool white with the smoothest texture.

Humpback - a glossy grey with hints of purple

Algae ii - a satin matte, deep mossy green and brown swirls, developed to match our previous Algae. Depending on the shape, eg being a vertical cylinder or bowl form, and application method, the green and brown pattern will vary.

Shell - a matte variegated beige with fashings of yellow and textured look with a smooth surface

Fiji - a satin matte, variegated light green version of Maldives

Kina - a satin matte, variegated deep forrest green with dark cobalt and brown undertones. Depending on the application method and firing environment, the brown will be more prononouced with flashings of gold. Magical!

Here is a description of our two signature glazes:

Maldives:

A glossy, uplifting glaze.

The name of this glaze speaks for itself - when Michelle held the first piece with this glaze, she was transported to the sandy beaches of a tropical island. It's simply a magical blue / green colour that reflects the colour of pristine waters.

Paua:

A mix of glossy and matt glaze, with lots of movement and character.

This glaze combo was initially developed by Jacqueline. The aesthetically pleasing and food photography-friendly blue has been a favourite amongst customers. Now taken to a new level where controlled drips and strong movements of glass can be seen in every piece.

A nod to Michelle's marine science background and interestingly a subtle connection to the blue and white rice bowls that forms an integral part of the Hong Kong family meal culture.

Notes and Care Instructions

Each and every piece of pottery is unique and made by our own hands. While we make and match sets so that they are very close in size, being handmade you can expect variations in dimensions, shape, weight and volume.

You can also expect variations in glaze patterns and texture as it is ultimately down to the chemistry, application method and firing environment. Some pieces might have heavier colour blending and others a lighter touch. Some pieces might show more greens or more browns and at JMT Ceramics, we embrace and celebrate the uniqueness of each piece.

All pieces are fully vitrified at 1220°C and thus provide a food-safe surface, even where there are exposed clay.

Our work is designed for everyday use and is dishwasher and food safe.

We do not recommend their use in the microwave or oven, where temperature extremes occur. Ceramics in general are susceptible to thermal shock.

We use a combination of satin matte or glossy glazes. Be advised that cutlery marks can occur with matte glazes and these can be removed with the use of a ceramic cleaner.

To protect and extend the life of your ceramic pieces, we recommend handwashing them.
